Ivan and Kaye Morton were appointed in 1949 as the first Open Bible missionaries to Jamaica. A number of missionaries eventually assisted in the establishment of Open Bible in Jamaica. The work was nationalized in March 1974.

There are 53 churches on the island with 10,057 members and 85 credentialed ministers. Some of the churches have congregations of 500 or more. First Church of the Open Bible in Kingston ministers to 2,300 people during the Sunday morning services. The Bible institute has 121 students. Other ministries include a dental and medical clinic, a radio program and kindergarten schools. In 1992 the government honored Open Bible by printing postage stamps with a picture of the Open Bible Church in Kingston. First Church in Kingston also has a multipurpose facility, which includes a library for children and a dental and medical clinic.

Hugh Elliston serves as the field director.
